Food Security and Humanitarian Aid

An projected 7.8 million people in Somalia are faced with severe food shortages in the country. The hunger crisis is caused by the combined impact of conflict, political instability, terrorism, unpredictable climatic shocks, lactose and the COVID-19 pandemic.

After four successive failed rainfall periods and a predictable fifth, Somalia over again faces severe drought that could put large part of the country and its population at risk of famine in 2022. Already, one million people have been displaced in search of food and water.

The worst-affected areas are in Somaliland, Puntland, Galmudug, south-west, Hirshabelle, and Jubaland. Communities in Somalia have expressed that they fear a famine and catastrophic situation. HACP is trying to address this matter with help of Somali government and donors to manage the matter.
