Protection/Gender Based Violence and Advocacy

With the adoption of the General Assembly and Security Council resolutions on sustaining peace and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, a multilateral policy consensus is emerging around a common vision for peaceful societies. These global frameworks treat prevention as an integral part of effective and participatory governance and view peace as both an enabler and an outcome of sustainable development.

HACP works on peace and governance, taking into account the specific situation and perspectives of women and youth. We focus on women, peace and security, based on UN Security Council Resolution 1325, which sets out international standards and commitments on the issue. Women suffer some of the worst impacts of war, including gender-based and sexual violence. So this area of work focuses on their needs and enforcing their rights. Resolution 1325 highlights the significance of addressing the needs of women victims of violence, ensuring women’s participation in political and social decision-making—especially in conflict-prone or conflict-affected areas—and empowering women and girls, in order to achieve sustainable peace. This important international framework has laid the ground for many of our intervention and activities on gender. Launching from SDGs Target 5.5, which aims to “ensure women’s full and effective participation and equal opportunities for leadership at all levels of decision making in political, economic, and public life.”

It is also important to provide youths capacity building sessions to take an active part in peacebuilding. With their youthful energy and capabilities, and ability of adaptation to new technological trends, so as they become mediators, facilitators, community mobilisers, humanitarian workers and peace brokers.
